Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright, screenwriter and film director known for his biting, elliptical dialogue and works about the shattering of the American dream. His plays include American Buffalo (1975), Glengarry Glen Ross (1984) (he also wrote the screenplay for the 1992 film), and Speed-the-Plow (1988). He directed the films House of Games (1987), Things Change (1988), Oleanna (1994), The Spanish Prisoner (1997), The Winslow Boy (1999), State and Main (2000), Hannibal (2001) and Heist (2001).
